We can often run ourselves ragged taking care of the responsibilities at work and home. If we are not careful we quickly become worn down and exhausted. This can not only can impact our mood, but it is also detrimental to our health. What is the antidote to all this stress? Self-care.
Self-care is not selfish, but rather it is an essential component to one's health. Self-care involves taking care of your mind, body, and spirit.
Here are just some of the benefits of incorporating self-care into our daily routine:

So how do you incorporate self-care into everyday life? Here are some examples to get you started:

Take a walk (preferably near water or a forest)
Read a book (for fun)
Take a bath in Epsom salts
Go for a 20 minute jog
Meditate
Take a 15 minute nap
Listen to relaxing music
Go to bed by 10PM
Get some sunshine
Drink water
Call a friend
Watch (and do) a 10-20 minute yoga routine from Youtube
Turn your phone off at night
Play with your kids
Laugh at a funny Youtube video
Hold a baby
Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers
Start a flower or vegetable garden
Close your eyes and take 5 deep breaths
Have a dance party, turn on music and dance with whoever is around
These ideas are not only doable they are essential for your health and well-being. They will make you a better husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, father/mother, daughter/son, and worker. They will also help you move towards your health and wellness goals by reducing stress.
So here is your challenge for this week: Pick one of these self-care ideas and implement it, starting today. Then continue each day with the same or different self-care habit. Over time this will become a natural part of your routine. You may be surprised at your increased energy, improved mood, and overall ability to handle stress that much better.
